Stepping back in time
- Walking in the Lot valley.
The Lot valley is a joy
to discover on foot. It is a warm and fertile area, the main crops being
sunflowers, maize and soya, but also fruit in abundance, lavender fields
and even tobacco, but the main crop which dominates the region is the
grapes that make the rich, full-bodied Cahors wine.
It is an excellent area for rambling and exploring, largely unspoilt and
steeped in history. There is a myriad of ancient footpaths and
bridleways criss-crossing wooded hillsides and vineyards to choose from,
with magnificent views, riverside walks and secluded hamlets.
Discover a land that time has forgotten with medieval villages, frescoed churches,
ancient shepherds' shelters, communal washing springs and hill-top
châteaux. Most weeks we add a visit to one of the impressive castles
at Bonaguil or Biron
We are long-standing devotees of walking and know the area well, and love
helping visitors to discover this beautiful part of France. Guided walks are selected according to
the interests of the group, and the time of year. They are never too
difficult, normally take 2½ - 3 hours, and we either take a picnic or stop for lunch
at a local restaurant.
We can also assist with the preparation of suitable routes that you can
take yourself and full details and maps of circular walks that start
and finish at La Buissière are available at the centre.

A splendid view over the river Lot and the village of
Albas, where we started our walk.
